Burn Camp Photos
The Arthur C. Luf Children's Burn Camp is owned by the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation, a not for profit 501 (c)(3) charitable organization established in 1978. It is comprised of 12 volunteer Board Members with an office located in Milford, Connecticut.
Arthur Luf, a retired fire lieutenant from the Bridgeport Fire Department and Shriner was visiting the Shriner's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. While there he met a young burn survivor who simply asked him one question. "Can you help me?"
After working hard and spending countless hours of his time beginning in 1991, the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation Board of Directors established a children's burn camp for severely burned children between the ages of 8 and 18. There is nothing more compelling than helping kids. This one idea became a most important service to children burn survivors who become part of a camping experience of a lifetime at our beautiful 176 acre setting in Union, Connecticut. All children attend free of charge. The Arthur C. Luf Children's Burn Camp is the only summer camp of its kind in the Northeast.
This one-week summer camp, provides our campers who attend from all over the world, to meet each other, see that their are other burn survivors that have suffered the same injury. This then begins the healing process, not only physically, but psychologically.
In support of these heroic survivors, a dedicated staff of firefighters, representing every state in New England, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, District of Columbia and Canada. Along with, nurses, physical and occupational therapists and P.A's from all of the leading burn centers from Washington D.C. to Maine and adult burn survivors round out our staff. All volunteer our time.
This camp provides all of the programs and amenities a summer camp provides, but with one very distinct feature. It is free to every camper who attends.
But this takes time and of course many donated dollars to achieve its success..
We ask you to take a view minutes of your time to take a trip through our camp and if your benevolence can help support our camp, we ask for you to partner with us by making a donation on behalf our hero's !
